Frank Sanchez was born in Miami, Florida on January 10, 1984. While in high school he studied piano at the Aaron Copland School of Music and graduated from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in 2006 with a B.F.A. in Arts Management. Upon graduation he founded Ah, Broadway, Productions, and shortly thereafter began writing Off-Broadway Children's Musicals for the Children's Theatre Company in New York City. His first major credit was HORTON THE ELEPHANT, a musical based on the Dr. Seuss book. HORTON THE ELEPHANT won the New York Times Critic's Choice Awards in 2006 and 2007.
In 2007, he wrote the music and co-authored the lyrics for KING KUNKA BUNKA AND THE ROTTEN ROYAL RASCALS, for which he won critical acclaim, including having performances for the General Assembly of the United Nations. This was followed by FARMER RABBIT'S FIESTA, which opened the Dizzie Gillespie Theatre in New York City. The following year, he wrote the music and lyrics for AH, BROADWAY! , and two years later, PROVIDENCE: THE STORY OF ROGER WILLIAMS. At one point, Frank's shows were being performed at 20 theatres nationwide. Again he received critical acclaim for HENRY 'BOX' BROWN, a poignant musical about a slave who watched his family be sold, and as a last measure, shipped himself in a crate from Virginia to abolitionist Philadelphia. He next teamed up with Dr. Dorothy Marcic and three-time Tony Award Winner Hinton Battle and wrote the music for Terms of Dismemberment, which ran for 9 performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre as part of the New York International Fringe Festival. In 2012, Frank teamed up with Michael Chimenti to adapt Phyllis Holliday's Ickitwick, the result was the wildly successful JOHNNY AND THE THINKING MACHINE. The following year, Frank teamed up with Joshua Janoff and June Rachelson-Ospa to create I SEE... I SEE... a musical fable based on the Greek fairytale Almondseed and Almondella. The production was produced by Shadow Waltz Productions in East Meadow, which was followed by a one-night only performance at the Art House in Astoria. Currently, Frank has once again teamed up with June Rachelson-Ospa and Jack G. Hyman to write BREAKFAST WITH THE BIRDS, a musical based on Hyman's best-selling children's book of the same name. |
